Review | The Green Witch’s Oracle Deck

If you’re someone who loves the idea of blending nature with a bit of magic, then The Green Witch’s Oracle by Arin Murphy-Hiscock might be just what you’re looking for. This deck feels like a gentle nudge from Mother Nature herself, reminding us to slow down and tap into the wisdom that’s all around us—sometimes quite literally growing in our own backyards.

I have to admit, when I walked into the bookstore, I wasn’t planning on buying this set of oracle cards. I knew I’d leave with something, but a green witch-themed deck wasn’t at the top of my list. Even after checking the illustrations online and seeing the cover art, I wasn’t entirely sold. But out of all the decks I was considering, this one stood out as the most intriguing.

Little did I know, I’d end up really liking The Green Witch’s Oracle, not just for its beautiful illustrations but also for the thoughtful content of the cards.

Table of Content for the Oracle Cards

One of my pet peeves with card deck guidebooks is when they don’t include an index, or worse, when the card interpretation pages are jumbled up without any alphabetical or numerical order. I initially thought this deck would have the same issue.

At first, I was a bit annoyed when I couldn’t find the table of contents or index at the front of the book. It took me a minute to realize it was tucked away at the end. But now that I know where to find it, it’s actually super convenient! I can locate the cards much quicker, making the deck even easier to use.

The Green Witch’s Oracle: A Peek Inside

The Green Witch’s Oracle is a 50-card deck focused on plants, herbs, and their magical properties. Arin, the creative mind behind the deck, has rooted (pun intended) the cards in the tradition of green witchcraft. This is essentially a practice that works with nature’s magic—using plants for healing, protection, and maybe even a bit of spellwork if that’s your vibe.

Each card showcases a plant or herb, paired with a keyword and a brief description of its magic or healing powers. The artwork is stunning, with each card drawing you into a world where every plant has something meaningful to say. Whether you’re a seasoned green witch or just curious about the practice, this deck has something for everyone.

Symbolism That Runs Deep

One of the coolest things about this deck is the rich symbolism. Take the Watering Can card, for example. It represents nurturing and growth. Just like a watering can helps plants thrive by giving them the water they need, this card is a gentle reminder to nurture the parts of your life that need a little extra care. Whether it’s a relationship, a project, or your own self-care, it’s about investing time and energy into what matters most.

Then there are the Season cards, which add an interesting layer to your readings. These cards—Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—aren’t just about the time of year; they reflect the cycles we go through in life. For instance, the Spring card symbolizes new beginnings and growth, while Winter is about rest, reflection, and sometimes, a much-needed reset. Drawing a Season card can offer insight into where you are in a particular cycle or how to align with the natural rhythms of life.

Card Quality and Usability

When it comes to card quality, The Green Witch’s Oracle doesn’t disappoint. The cards are made from sturdy, high-quality stock that feels durable and substantial in your hands. They have a smooth finish that makes shuffling easy, though not too slippery. Whether you’re using the deck daily or just now and then, the cards hold up well, maintaining their vibrant colors and crisp edges over time. It’s definitely a deck that feels built to last, which is always a plus when investing in new oracle cards.

However, I do have to mention that the card size is a bit larger than I’d prefer. With small hands, I already struggle to shuffle most tarot decks, and while I can manage 50 cards, a smaller size would definitely make shuffling easier. So, while the matte and smooth finishing is great, the size does pose a bit of a challenge for me.

Illustrations and Overall Feel

The illustrations and color palette of this deck remind me a lot of my all-time favorite, The Woodland Wardens. Though the illustrators are different, both decks have a warm and welcoming vibe. The colors aren’t overly saturated; instead, they’re muted in a way that feels just right. The imagery exudes a sense of comfort and lightness, making the cards easy to connect with both visually and energetically. Along with the card names, interpreting the messages comes naturally and intuitively.

Personally, my favorite card is Mint.

If you’re looking for a deck that’s all about connecting with nature and infusing a bit of green magic into your life, The Green Witch’s Oracle is a fantastic choice. It’s beautiful, easy to use, and offers a blend of practical advice and spiritual guidance.

What I love most about this deck is how it brings you back to the basics—reminding you that sometimes, the answers you’re seeking can be found in the plants growing just outside your door. It’s not about predicting the future; it’s more about tuning into the world around you and finding a little magic in the everyday. Do you need gardening experience to fully understand this set? Not really! Even if you’re a complete beginner, you can easily adapt to the messages of the cards. If you do have some gardening know-how, that’s just a bonus.

So, if this sounds like something you’d enjoy, why not give it a try? Or at least take a peek at the cards and see if they resonate with you. Either way, it’s a lovely way to bring a bit of nature’s wisdom into your life.
